Aussie Rock Legends to and Territory Stars Help Celebrate Territory Day

TerritoryDay2021-97

One of the Territory’s most epic celebrations is just three weeks away, and events to help Territorians enjoy the fun have been confirmed across the length and breadth of the Territory.

Territory Day is celebrated on 1 July each year, to recognise the day the NT declared independence from the Commonwealth Government in 1978. Events across the Territory involve fireworks, concerts and community celebrations.

In Darwin, Aussie supergroup Australian Rock Collective will lead the line-up at a concert at iconic Mindil Beach. Featuring members of legendary Aussie bands Spiderbait, Jet, Powderfinger, You Am I and The Wrights, expect one electrifying rock and roll extravaganza.

The band said they were "honoured and damn excited" to be part of celebrating the Northern Territory

They will be supported by Darwin’s newest rock band DRAFTDAY, Caiti Baker with DJ Lady Kay, Lena Kellie, Mandy Garling and Alice Cotton. In addition, Darwin’s ARIA-nominated producer Kuya James will bring together the voices of Melanie Mununggurr and Noni Eather, Emcille, Saranya, and Phlthebeat in different sets. The music will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Mindil Beach Sunset Markets will also take place on Territory Day.

The Territory's own Caiti Baker said she was "super excited" to perform as part of the Territory Day celebrations in Darwin.

“I toured with Jessica Mauboy earlier this year and can’t wait to get back on stage and perform songs from my new album Under Our Galaxy at iconic Mindil Beach. Come and join the party," she said.

In Alice Springs, Territory Day celebrations will be delivered in partnership with the annual Alice Springs Show, for an extra-busy couple of days of fun. Australia’s hottest party band, Chunky Custard, will lead the charge on the Territory Day stage with their ’70s and Beyond Show. They will be joined by Tanzanian rapper, musician and hip-hop artist Katanga Junior. King Stingray will help the Nhulunbuy community celebrate, while Katherine will host a Territory Day bash featuring DJ Charly T and support. Tennant Creek’s event will feature Desert Eagles, Newboys, Barkly Drifters, MB Reggae and WMC Allstars. A further 14 community events will take place across the Territory. All events will feature fireworks displays.
