Wild State partnership puts Finke and Territory in global spotlight

Finke Desert Race

A global spotlight is set to shine on the legendary Tatts Finke Desert Race, with Chris Hemsworth and Ben Grayson’s production company Wild State partnering exclusively to develop a suite of scripted and unscripted screen projects celebrating the iconic event.

The collaboration is supported by the Northern Territory Government and includes development of a narrative feature film inspired by the race, as well as unscripted content capturing the event itself and freestyle motocross legend Robbie Maddison’s first-ever attempt at tackling Finke.

Chris Hemsworth said Wild State was excited to partner with the Tatts Finke Desert Race ahead of the event’s milestone anniversary.

“Off-road racing has been a passion in my family for a long time and we at Wild State are thrilled to partner with the Tatts Finke Desert Race on the eve of its 50th anniversary and bring this epic competition to a global audience,” Mr Hemsworth said.

This partnership strengthens the Territory’s integrated strategy across Screen Territory and Tourism and Events NT, leveraging major productions and events to boost economic activity, elevate destination marketing, and expand global awareness of the NT.

Held annually in Central Australia, the Finke Desert Race is one of the Territory’s most significant events, drawing thousands of visitors and delivering major benefits to local businesses, tourism operators, and the broader economy. The 2026 event, running 5–8 June, marks the race’s 50th anniversary; a milestone set to attract even more attention.

This partnership underscores the Territory’s unique ability to deliver world‑class experiences and compelling screen stories.
